“Leaders at Charlotte Douglas International Airport unveiled a glimpse at an initiative expected to drive and set guidelines for commercial development surrounding the airport at Monday night’s City Council meeting.

Updating the airport strategic plan has been contemplated for awhile but formally kicked into action after City Council approved the creation of the CLT Airport Area Strategic Development Plan last October. Since then, airport officials have partnered with consulting firms, led by MXD Development Strategists, to come up with the best and most economically viable uses for acreage surrounding Charlotte Douglas.

The plan identifies five areas around CLT that are primed for development, all with different uses and targeted economic clusters. A CLT Gateway District would sit at the front door of the airport, primarily containing office development and on-site meeting and corporate event facilities.”
