Project Description
Positioning Maple Ridge as a dynamic retail destination through strategic analysis, revitalization, and community-driven growth.
MXD partnered with the City of Maple Ridge to conduct a Retail Market Analysis aimed at guiding the city’s retail strategy. The project evaluated retail market potential, identified gaps, and proposed strategic recommendations for sustainable retail growth over the next 3–5 years.
The analysis incorporated extensive quantitative research, including retail gap assessments and demand modeling, alongside robust public engagement. Community feedback was collected through pop-up events and online surveys, revealing resident preferences, shopping behaviors, and brand desires. The engagement efforts yielded valuable insights, such as the demand for upscale casual dining, improved shopping diversity, and more family-friendly entertainment options.
Findings underscored significant opportunities in Maple Ridge, driven by favorable demographics, rapid population growth, and an underutilized retail market. The report highlighted a projected 1.1 million square feet of additional retail potential and proposed revitalizing downtown as a vibrant retail hub, complemented by community retail nodes.
With recommendations for infrastructure upgrades, walkable retail formats, and public-private partnerships, the study established a foundation for Maple Ridge to reduce retail leakage, attract new businesses, and enhance its economic vitality. This comprehensive approach positions Maple Ridge as a unique and dynamic retail destination within the Metro Vancouver region.
