Driving growth in Gaston County with strategic multimodal connectivity and targeted economic opportunities near CLT Airport.
This Strategy leverages the direct proximity to CLT Airport only 10-15 minutes away, and existing Economic Sectors already present in Gaston County, to identify target sectors that would benefit from this multimodal platform. A multi-jurisdictional Steering Committee including CLT Airport were engaged throughout the process, to evolve the Economic Positioning Strategy. The resulting Strategy identifies 14 Enabling Mobility Corridors (of various transportation modes), as well as 10 Economic Opportunity Areas involving future land uses and development that would complement the CLT Airport Development Strategy.
Implementation of the Economic Positioning Strategy is already occurring with the announcement of Light Rail coming to CLT Airport then on to Belmont (within Gaston County), and major property development projects (including the Lineberger Tract and Catawba River Crossings) are attracting attention from the State DOT for enabling roads and infrastructure funding.
