MXD is proud to announce that the Sunrise Tomorrow Specific Plan has earned three prestigious awards, recognizing its excellence in planning and collaboration. Among these accolades are the Award of Excellence for Comprehensive Planning from the American Planning Association (APA) California and the 2022 Award of Excellence for Comprehensive Planning from the Sacramento Valley Chapter of the APA. These honors celebrate the outstanding efforts and vision that shaped the project into a model for innovative community planning.
The project was led by the Gensler office based out of Los Angeles, with the success of the Sunrise Tomorrow Specific Plan driven by a positive and collaborative process involving the City of Citrus Heights, the consulting team, local residents, and key stakeholders. This inclusive approach ensured that all voices were heard and that the entire team remained focused on shared goals throughout the project.
Even when faced with the challenges of pivoting halfway through due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the project team demonstrated resilience and adaptability. The result is an award-winning, forward-thinking, and implementable plan that will transform Sunrise Mall into a vibrant, mixed-use hub serving the needs of Citrus Heights residents for generations to come.
